Episode 29 – Homemade Fire Starters

You ready to use some of that lint you have in the bag on your dryer?!  Today I will discuss making some super easy and cheap homemade fire starters.  These bad boys burn a solid 10 minutes and will get your fire burning super easy.  I take 3 of these put them under full sized logs in the fireplace and don’t even use kindling.  Can you say “Roaring Fire”?!

All you need are Wax, Lint, and Egg Cartons (or condiment cups).  Guess what I have all these items listed AND MORE just below the podcast, check them out and buy something you know you want to…

Episode 28 – Emergency Car Heater

How much are your loved ones worth?  My wife and kids are worth at least $13.66 total.  $4.55 each.  So I spent $13.66 to build this sweet emergency car heater, it’s super easy and pretty cool so you should too.  Seriously people $13.66 to potentially save life and limb, how can you not do this.

Not more than 2 or 3 weeks ago people were stuck on the interstate in New York for more than 24 hours in a snow storm.  Don’t think it can’t happen where you live, Ice and Snow storms can happen anywhere in the continental United States so be prepared.

In the podcast I will describe this super easy project, and since it involves fire it’s pretty fun too.  It’s kind of an adjunct to Episode 10 the Winter Auto Survival Kit.

NOTE when refilling make sure can is cool and no open flames are around.

  • Close lid TIGHT
  • Use duct tape to attach opener and lighter to the can
  • Stick it in your car with 2-3 bottles of alcohol

Shows Delayed

I may not get a chance to record a show until perhaps this weekend.  Sorry for the delay but life can get in the way at times..

Let me know if you have any show ideas or questions or whatever and I’ll think about them while I’m busy.

Remember there is still time to order stuff at Amazon and have it in time for Christmas.   Amazon.com

Remember to keep calm, there may be a lot of stress leading up to the holidays but believe me it will all be fine, just relax.

Episode 27 – Breakfast Lasagna

Next in our unintentional series of holiday recipes is Breakfast Lasagna.  You may be asking WTF Lasagna for breakfast?  Well it’s not really lasagna, it’s actually breakfast strata.

Every Christmas morning my mom would toss this in the oven and we would bask in what I imagine pure love tastes like.

Oh Look a podcast!

Internet Down? Try Public DNS

Currently the Midwest is experiencing an internet outage if you have Comcast service.

There is an Easy Fix.  It is down due to a DNS issue, just change your DNS settings to a Public DNS.

Google has free public DNS  servers at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Open DNS has free public DNS servers at 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

At a basic level you want to go to your network adapter properties, select IP version 4, and change the DNS servers.

If you aren’t familiar with this process try going to this link http://bit.ly/gM9C2N

Hope this helps, or other Computer tips check out our podcasts.

Episode 24 – Do1Thing December – First Aid

This episode we continue our monthly preparedness series where we follow the Do1Thing.com model of baby steps for preparedness.  December is First Aid, and we go into some tips to get ready for first aid emergencies.

One of the easiest and most important skills to learn is basic first aid and CPR.  These are also the most likely skills to be needed on an average day.  Take time to learn to save your loved ones.

As I stated in Episode 11 most commercially available first aid kits are inadequate at best, so get some training and build your own kit (or buy the one featured in Episode 11, as it is almost perfect).

Oh you probably want the podcast… FINE here it is…

Episode 23 – Thanksgiving Thoughts and Holiday Buying

Today I give thanks for my Wife, Children, Family, and the comfort that we have in our lives.

I give thanks to my listeners, all 3 of you 😉

Super short moment to ponder today.  Just want you to think about WHY you should be thankful.  Don’t let the little things drag you down, ponder for a moment how lucky and comfortable you really are in the big scheme of things.

[display_podcast]      <– that’s the podcast folks

Now as far as your Holiday Buying, if you are going to be buying from Amazon.com please consider clicking on one of my Amazon links.  It won’t cost you any more money and I will get a little referral fee.  Anything you purchase from Amazon after clicking on a link counts, you don’t even have to buy the item listed.  You will need to click on one of my links each day you purchase from Amazon for me to get credit as they do expire.  Thanks for your support.

Episode 22 – How to build a garden

So this is how to build a garden from scratch.  This is not how to grow a garden but how to BUILD a garden.  I am NOT the guy to tell you how to grow a garden, because I am a lazy gardener.  I plant then look at it every week or so, and then I pick stuff.  You can do so much better than me.

So building a garden is as easy as throwing stuff on the ground, heck my 3 year old is an expert at this technique you can do it too.  That’s right NO Shovels, NO Hoes, NO Rototillers!   Just cardboard and bags of stuff from your home improvement store!

So Click below for the show, and after that I will include some links for people who allegedly know something about planting and growing stuff.

[display_podcast]

And now the part of our show where we have links (yeah I make a pittance if you buy this stuff, it’s ok  we will probably make it through the winter if you don’t buy stuff from me)
