MTD / TroyBilt Mulch Kit Fiasco

Ok so I bought a new riding mower, a 2015 Troy Bilt Bronco (By MTD). I purchased the mulch kit detailed in the manual and online. The kit DOES NOT FIT not even a little. After an hour on the phone and lots of other research I have found the correct kit. Several MTD 42″ mowers have changed decks for the 2015 season, these mowers cannot use the old mulch kit. In this video I show the differences between the kits and how to tell which one you need as well as the appropriate kit numbers. So if you can’t figure out why your mulch kit won’t install check out the video here and see if it helps.
You also get to hear me grunt a lot.
OLD KIT # 19A30006OEM
NEW KIT # 19A70041100

Thanks for the demonstration. My problem after installing the plug when cutting the grass it lifts up. It seems the plastic is not sturdy enough to hold the plug down in place. Do you have any suggestions

    Thank You

Yeah mine lifts a little as well but seems to do it’s job for the most part. I have heard of people using screws and similar around the edge.

This was such a huge issue and was finally fixed in PRINT on the placards that now accompany the 2015 TroyBilt Bronco models. The correct Mulch Kit part number now listed on the paperwork is 19A700420OEM. Many thanks to Brian and so many others that brought this issue to the forefront.

Don’t take the deck off to change blades. Jack the front up with floor jack. Or if u have strong back lift up mower & shove a milk crate under it or jack stands, tree stump, log. High enuff to get a breaker-bar or impact gun under there to remove the blade bolts. Much quicker.

I bought the wrong plug by itself, from Amazon. But I used some self drilling screws to hold the bottom to the lip of the deck. Rubber strap to the top deck bolt towards the left. I also removed the disharge chute flap. Just cover the holes with duct tape so grass doesn’t fly out.

I bought the Gator Blades G5 mulching blades. Huge difference, beefier thicker, harder steel. Really nice cut even with thick tall grass.
