Episode 38 – Centerfire Rifles

So the last scheduled episode in the self defense series and we are talking about centerfire rifles.  As always if you are not familiar with firearms GET TRAINING FIRST, you don’t want to kill or injure someone because you were an idiot.

As I state in the podcast centerfire rifles and pistol caliber carbines usually aren’t the best for home defense due to over penetration, etc.  You know I could write it here or you could just listen… so listen.

Ummm here is the podcast click on it and enjoy.

I picked up a Mosin-Nagant 91/30 last Spring for $90. It’s a great gun and I did use it to deer hunt last fall. It is long and a bit heavy when you compare it to something like a 30-30 Winchester or a .270 Savage that a lot of hunters use, but it is a great gun with a lot of dropping power. The iron sights make it shorter range (in my opinion) for deer hunting, but most of my shots are inside 50 yards anyway. The iron sights are better for shooting a deer on the run too, which I had to this year. Ammo is more scarce though, but you can always find it at a gun show. The gun shop in my hometown only carries full metal jacket rounds of 7.62X54R which aren’t appropriate for hunting.
